Deck of Misfortune

About

Gene Hamil, an artist and filmmaker, originally devised the Deck of Misfortune for the stories of Twisted Carnival. Impressed by the concepts underlying the ficitional deck, he invented a real one that works similiar to traditional tarot cards.

The cards are crafted from premium paper stock, boasting a glossy coating on both sides. Their dimensions are 3.5 inches by 5.75 inches.

In Fiction

The MuLocks, a group of three powerful sorceresses dedicated to protecting a magical land, were founded by the first sorceress, SeCate. When SeCate passed away, her magical book was inherited by her successor, SaDue, who became known as the Queen of the MuLocks.

However, one of the MuLocks, LoSho, betrayed her fellow sorceresses, SaDue and ZeLena, by stealing the magical book and giving it to Norman Barley, the owner of a twisted circus called the Twisted Carnival. Barley used the book to make his circus even more spectacular.

When SaDue and ZeLena discovered LoSho’s betrayal, they sought out LoSho’s twin sister, EnGa, to join forces with them. With EnGa’s help, SaDue and ZeLena created the Deck of Misfortune to trap Norman Barley and his circus crew, ensuring the safety of their land and its people from the dangerous use of the magical book.

In Reality

The Deck of Misfortune bears resemblance to Tarot cards but features a unique reading system capable of revealing a person’s past, present, future, and impending misfortune. This misfortune foretells events that could lead to a bleak future.

In contrast to the traditional Tarot deck with approximately 78 cards, the Deck of Misfortune comprises only 13 cards. However, despite its seemingly limited number, this deck possesses significant power and effectively fulfills its intended purpose.
